This part of ISO 3166 establishes a universallyapplicable code for the representation of the namesof principal administrative divisions of countries andterritories included in ISO 3166-1. It is intended to beused in conjunction with ISO 3166-1.Clauses 4 to 7 of this part of ISO 3166 provide thestructure for a code for the representation of namesof principal administrative divisions, or similar areas,of the countries and geopolitical entities included inISO 3166-1.Clause 8 contains a list of names of subdivisions ofcountries and geopolitical entities, together with thecode element developed for each one of them.
